Moroccos king revokes paedophile pardon

Moroccos king revokes paedophile pardon

King Mohamed VI of Morocco on Sunday revoked a pardon granted to a Spanish serial paedophile whose release sparked angry protests in the kingdom, a palace statement said.

The king has decided to withdraw the pardon previously accorded to Daniel Galvan Vina, said the text of the statement, published by the official MAP news agency.

Although several media reports have said Vina has left the country, the agency said the justice minister would discuss with Madrid the next step after the pardons revocation.

The kings announcement came shortly before a large demonstration was due to take place against the pardon, after batonwielding police dispersed demonstrations on Friday.

Vina, said to be in his 60s, was pardoned by the king and freed last Tuesday from jail in Kenitra, north of the capital. He had been sentenced in September 2011 to 30 years in prison.

Vina, convicted of raping 11 children aged between four and 15, was among 48 Spanish prisoners released in response to a request from Spanish King Juan Carlos, who visited Morocco in midJuly, the justice ministry said.

Earlier, the palace said in a statement carried on MAP that the king had been unaware of the nature of the mans crimes and had ordered a probe into his release.

The investigation should determine the responsibilities and the failures that led to this regrettable release, the statement said.

The king was never informed in any way or at any time of the seriousness of the abject crimes of which the person concerned was convicted, the palace added.

The famous faces who don

The famous faces who don

RTE heavyweights Claire Byrne, Kathryn Thomas and Sharon Ni Bheolain are not among the elite group whose earning power has just been revealed.

And there is no place either for some of the most wellknown radio presenters such as Aine Lawlor, Cathal MacCoille or Mary Wilson. Of the top earners disclosed by the broadcaster, seven of them negotiate their own contracts through their respective media firms.

Many other presenters are employed as staff essentially, on a wage. These sums are generally negotiated by their unions and are on a much more modest scale.

While they would have the security of pensions and other employment benefits, few would see their salaries soar into the sixfigure bracket.

The average RTE salary was 60,000 in 2012.

Rising star Claire Byrne is an independent contractor whose fee is subject to individual negotiation.

While she may appear in the top ranks in years to come, she only joined the RTE Prime Time team earlier this year.

Those who are RTE employees, such as Six One pair Bryan Dobson, who did make the top10 list, and Sharon Ni Bheolain, are paid directly by the station.

steamy novel based on a former President and Ireland

steamy novel based on a former President and Ireland

The countrys first female judge Catherine McGuinness has revealed that it was widely speculated that herself and Mary Robinson were the inspiration behind two of the legal eagles in Laura.

The 1989 novel by the Justice Minister is set to be republished and could be back on bookshelves within six weeks.

However, Ms McGuinness laughed that the two female barristers didnt fare particularly well in the book and lost their cases.

To be fair he Alan was a very skillful practitioner but we were inclined to have a laugh about the book and Im sure when he looks back on it now hes probably having a good laugh at it himself, particularly the suggestion that hes going to make 100,000 out of it, she said.

The wellknown exjudge added that she felt the romantic scenes in the book were mild enough, steamy at a sort of Mills and Boom level but its not 50 Shades of Grey.

Mr Shatter is currently in negotiations with Poolbeg Press with a view to republishing the book 24 years after it first hit shelves.

Discussions are ongoing as to whether the book will be reprinted using the same 1980sstyle cover.

A spokesperson for Poolbeg said: Hopefully it will be back in shops in about six weeks time.

The 244page book originally sold for IR4.99. It is now likely to be around 12.99. The novel was referred to the censorship office recently on the grounds it might be too obscene for an Irish audience.

Sudden and severe lower back pain

Sudden and severe lower back pain

Hello, I am actually posting for my girlfriend since accounts are closed. I checked the forum rules and there did not seem to be a ban on this. If I violated any terms I apologize. I cant remember any incident where I might have injured it. Its the most severe when I first wake up in the morning or after exercising. Bad enough to make me gasp for breath, like getting the wind knocked out of you, but doesnt seem to limit my range of movement or physically prevent me from doing anything. Taking a deep breath causes some pain. I havent found anything that relieves it in any way Tylenol doesnt help, neither does rest, heat, ice etc..

There are many causes of acute low back pain. In general most acute low back pain is self limiting. What is interesting with your case is that movement of the spine is not restricted nor painful. kidneys, lungs, pancreas, uterus etc as the source of pain. It would be worthwhile seeing for family physician who can take a complete history and focussed physical with appropriate tests.

Red flags for acute low back pain are: numbness or tingling in leg or legs, saddle paresthesia numbness in the groin area, leg weakness, inability to urinate. In older folks, sudden onset, pain that wakes person at night, weight loss, fever, and hx of osteoporosis.

Some areas to think about pain with urination, last menstrual cycle, hx of endometriosis, problems with ovarian cyst, pregnancy, diarrhea or constipation, nausea or vomiting, fever, cough, and abdominal pain or discomfort.

Musculoskeletal questions would be: Hx of scoliosis? Any pregnancies and deliveries Sacroiliac joint problems occur more commonly in young and middle age women especially after pregnancy.

Again, follow up with family physician at this point is important.

Another thought on this stems from the fact that pain is worse in the morning and after exercise.

There may be a musculoskeletal cause of this.

Questions to ask are: Is the excercise program new or intensity increased recently? Is exercise high impact vs water aerobics? Are you a runner? How much weight do you carry how much do you weigh Any muscle tightness in the legs especially hamstrings? Any new shoes including athletic or dress? Any areas on the back itself that are tender to touch or tight?

Spirit AeroSystems to shed Oklahoma operations

Spirit AeroSystems to shed Oklahoma operations

WICHITA, Kan. Spirit AeroSystems said Tuesday that it plans to shed its operations in Oklahoma and postpone filing its secondquarter earnings report.

8 percent following the announcement before regaining some of the loss. At midday in New York, the stock was down $1.06, or 4.1 percent, at $24.73

Spirit has gone through a number of major changes in recent months, including adding CEO Larry Lawson in March. Nazaire, France. The company said in July that it would lay off about 360 salaried support and management employees at its Kansas and Oklahoma facilities.

The company makes large sections of airplanes assembled by companies such as Boeing and Airbus.

Spirit said Tuesday that it has started a process to divest its Oklahoma operations, which includes sites in Tulsa and McAlester, as part of the broader strategic and financial review it announced in May.

The company said it has hired a financial adviser to help with the process but did not share any further details of the plan. It employs roughly 15,800 people globally and 2,700 in Oklahoma.

Spirit also said that it is delaying filing its secondquarter earnings paperwork with regulators. The company said auditors have not completed their review and that it plans to file and share the results publicly once that process is complete.

The company said that it expects to record a pretax charge between $350 million and $400 million tied to its Gulfstream business jet programs. It did not give a specific earnings forecast for the period, but said it anticipates reporting revenue of $1.52 billion, driven by higher production volumes and nonproduction revenues.
